About GigaGive
GigaGive is an innovative way to represent the flow of funds from donor to recipient by helping the viewer grasp both the short-term and long-term trends that exist in the data.
This project makes data analysis simple - it is a big-picture solution, a beautiful visualization of transaction-flows over time.
This particular visualization shows DonorsChoose.org activity over a period of 10 years.
Understanding the different visual dimensions:
- The arrows animate from the source to the destination.
- Each ripple indicates a received donation. The ripples that appear without an arrow leading to them indicate donations where source data was censored or unavailable.
- The donation that causes the project to reach its fundraising goal is indicated by a green ripple.
- A blue star appears at the school’s location the moment a project attains full funding.
- You can click on the blue star to view a full description of the project. Click anywhere outside the box to resume the animation.
- You can click on the date to change it to a different period.
- The slider can be moved to change the speed.
